A lavishly illustrated book describing the old Catholic halls (Stonor Park, Markenfield Hall, Ripley Castle etc )and families in England (the Fitzherberts Bickerdyke, etc) and the relics and memorials to English martyrs (Oxford, the Skull of Wardley Hall, etc). Illustrated throughout with line drawings, photographs and photogravures.

The author, Dom Bede Camm, O.S.B., (1864–1942), was an English Benedictine monk and martyrologist, best known for his works on the English Catholic martyrs, which helped to keep their memories alive reemerging Catholic Church of Victorian England.


A good reference copy. The blue cloth binding is heavily faded and mottled, and rubbed to the corners. The contents are in good readable condition, but the frontispiece is neatly detached and the untrimmed page edges are tanned.
