First edition, hardback, bound in the original blue cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 19 × 12.5cm, 355pp.
This copy belonged to Margaret Lowenfeld, and she has signed the ffep. Lowenfeld (1890–1973) was a British pioneer of child psychology and play therapy, a medical researcher in paediatric medicine, and an author of several publications and academic papers on the study of child development and play.
From the preface, "this book is an attempt to give the teacher of adolescents and adults an account of the psychology of thinking in the light of our present knowledge of the unconscious. Generally speaking it deals with man's efforts to satisfy his desires in spite of obstacles and with the ways in which these efforts may lead on the one hand to problem-solving, on the other to phantasy-thinking."
The contents are in good condition, lightly tanned and with a few marginal pencil annotations. The blue cloth is a bit rubbed and has a stain to the upper board over the titling.
