Records of Walmer
A history of a town and castle on the Kent coast
First edition, large hardback bound in brown cloth with gilt titling to spine and gilt castle decoration to upper board. 29 × 22cm, xxii + 440pp.
A history of Walmer on the Kent coast, including the castle (which became the stately-home for the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports), the manor, the church, the barracks, parochial records, natural phenomena etc etc, and has 3 maps and thirteen illustrations. Also loosely inserted is an Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings pamphlet on Walmer Castle.
Quite a rare title but this is only a reference copy. The boards have been attacked by damp and are heavily faded, and are rubbed to the edges. However, the contents are in perfectly good readable condition. All plates and maps are present, though two are neatly detached. The main body of text has secure binding and clean pages but the title page and frontis are foxed. There is a previous owner's hand-coloured bookplate to the front pastedown.
