Each volume is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and engraved title page. This is the second set of books in which Walter Scott relates incidents and events from Scottish history (King James, war with England, the Massacre at Glencoe etc).

Condition

A good reading set but quite heavily worn. The leather and boards are rubbed, the text has spotted foxing throughout and some creasing to the page edges. There is offsetting from the frontispieces but these are protected by a tissue guard. Previous owner's inscription to each volume. The books remain readable, just a bit scruffy.
