The Dowager of Jerusalem
A play by the famous plant-collector, Reginald Farrer
First edition, hardback bound in quarter cloth. 19.5 × 13cm, 159pp.
The author was a botanist, traveller and plant-collector but before he became an influential gardening writer (particularly with My Rock Garden) he wanted to be a dramatist, author and poet. This is one of his early plays but it was not well-received so he resumed his plant-collecting career, adventuring through bandit-country in China and in Nyitadi (Burma), where he died of diptheria in 1920.
A fair copy but quite a scarce first edition. The boards are rubbed and dulled and the book lacks the ffep. However, the main body of text is in good clean order and has secure binding.
