Jules Verne's first novel, first published in 1863. This edition illustrated with engravings by Riou and Montaut. Published in England as Five Weeks in a Balloon, or, Journeys and Discoveries in Africa by Three Englishmen, it is an adventure in which scholar and explorer, Dr. Samuel Fergusson, accompanied by his manservant Joe and his friend professional hunter Richard "Dick" Kennedy, sets out to travel across the African continent (still not fully explored) with the help of a balloon filled with hydrogen.
A good copy. There is rubbing to the boards and the upper board has a faint red stain visible in a certain light. The inner binding is secure but the pages tanned and a little foxed. Both front and rear endpapers have small holes where something had been attached and then taken out, but these are small an this remains an attractive edition in good readable condition.
