Published as part of Hetzel's Voyages Extraordinaires par Jules Verne series, and illustrated by Jules Ferat, this book recounts how a group of men escape imprisonment during the American Civil War by stealing a balloon. Blown across the world, they are air-wrecked on a remote desert island. In a manner reminiscent of Robinson Crusoe, the men apply their scientific knowledge and technical skill to exploit the island's bountiful resources, eventually constructing a sophisticated society in miniature.
This copy is in good condition with some wear. The spine is a little sunned and there is some mottling to the red cloth. Bumping to the corners and edges. The inner binding is secure but the pages have heavy tanning, with some pages heavily foxed.
