The Alexandria Quartet
Justine, Balthazar, Mountolive, Clea—early printings with a few issues...
1958–1960. First edition, early printings. Four volumes, complete. Hardbacks in dustwrapper. Each 21 × 13.5cm, 253pp, 250pp, 320pp, 287pp.
The Alexandria Quartet is Durrell's sensuous and brilliant evocation of wartime Alexandria.
Justine, fifth impression, 1958. Book is in very good shape with a few spots of foxing. Dustwrapper with light foxing and some light edgewear.
Balthazar, third impression, 1959. Book is good, but with a lean to the spine and some spotted foxing to prelims. Dustwrapper has lightly tanned to spine.
Mountolive, second impression, 1958. The book is in good readabel condition but a binder's error has pp305–320 before the title page, which is followed by the complete text (pp11–320). The dustwrapper is in good condition, with some light edgewear.
Clea, first impression, 1960. Book is in very good condition, lightly foxed but the ffep has some pen mark impressions. The dustwrapper is creased to the top edge but otherwise good.
A good set, none of the wrappers have been price-clipped and all are in protective sleeves. As mentioned, there is light foxing to all, Balthazar has a lean to the spine and there is a binder's error to Mountolive, with the last 15 pages being bound in before the title, though that is followed by the complete text.
