Full title: Sidonia the Sorceress, the Supposed Destroyer of the Whole Reigning Ducal House of Pomerania, and Mary Schweidler, The Amber Witch

These two volumes contain the Gothic romances of William Meinhold. Sidonia the Sorceress, based on Sidonia von Borcke, a Pomeranian noblewoman who was tried and executed for witchcraft in the city of Stettin in 1620. The Amber Witch, a novel of a witchcraft trial set during the Thirty Years War. Meinhold claimed to have discovered the story in a manuscript written by a 17th-century minister but it was, in fact, a hoax and pure creation by him.

Condition

The bindings are quite heavily rubbed to the spine and there is a slight lean to volume one. Corners rubbed and general war to the cloth. Previous owner's bookplate and portrait of Sidonia pasted in, otherwise the contents are good and the books readable.
