The Harp of Erin
Vol 1 only, the posthumous collection of Irish poet Thomas Dermody's verse
First edition. Hardback bound in full leather. 19.5 × 12cm, xvi + 287pp.
The first volume only (of two) of the poem of Thomas Dermody, an Irish poet who died in 1802. He published two books during his lifetime which were republished shorty after his death as The Harp of Erin. He was considered a talent but drove himself hard, fell out with friends and patrons, and ended his life in a small cottage in Lewisham.
A reading copy only. The leather is heavily worn with loss to the spine and rubbing to all edges. A previous owner has copied the title page onto itself with a few other pen marks and scribbles of verse. The pages are lightly foxed but the inner binding is holding. The previous owner's name to the title page is Michael Fallon of Ratherstensloe (?) of Dublin. A rare title, still readable but in poor condition.
