Alicia in Terra Mirabili (Alice in Wonderland)
The first Latin translation, and this copy belonged to Violet Dodgson, Lewis Carroll's niece
First edition, first printing hardback in dustwrapper. 20 × 13.5cm, 116pp .
Not signed as such but this copy belonged to Lewis Carroll's niece Violet Dodgson, and loosely inserted is a typed letter to her from the curator of Guildford Museum concerning a Lewis Carroll exhibition. Violet Dodgson (1878–1966) was the youngest daughter of Wilfred Dodgson, Lewis Carroll's younger brother. She was also guardian of LC's diaries.
This is the first translation into Latin of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, complete with John Tenniel's illustrations.
A very good copy, the dustwrapper is lightly faded to the spine and with light wear to the edges.Sold
