Full title: The Artist, or Young Ladies' Instructor in Ornamental Painting, Drawing etc, consisting of Lessons in Grecian Painting, Japan Painting, Oriental Tinting, Mezzotinting, Transferring, Inlaying, and Manufacturing Ornamented Articles for Fancy Fairs
A wonderful book on the instruction in art for young Victorian ladies. The book is illustrated with frontispiece, engraved and coloured title, and seventeen tissue-guarded plates, as well as numerous smaller illustrations within the text. The frontis (Cattle drinking, engraved and printed in oil colours) and coloured title page are George Baxter (though the title page uncredited, see Courtney Lewis; George Baxter the Printer, 1924, for reference).
This copy is in very good condition for age. There is light fading to the spine and some rubbing to the corners, and one small faint white stain at the bottom of the spine. Internally, the book is in very good order, there are a few light spots of foxing, including two spots to the margin of the cattle frontis but the main body of text is in good clean condition, with secure binding and all plates are present.
