The Dublin Quarterly Journal of Medical Science
1860 (Feb / May / Aug) with 15 plates, including harelips
First edition, half-leather. 22.5 × 14cm, pp257–500, xi , 512pp
A collection of articles including Richard H G Butcher's Reports in operative Surgery (harelips), Dr Collis on the Degeneration of Warts, Sir Henry Hobart's Case of Double Monster and much more including bladders, gout, rectums, lungs, midwifery, Laycock on the Mind and the Brain. This copy is illustrated with fifteen full-page plates showing surgical instruments and practices. There is also a fold-out plate but this has been ripped out and suffers significant loss.
A reading copy. The leather is very heavily scuffed, the pages tanned with a little creasing to the prelims. Of the fifteen full-page plates, they are present but have (in some cases) severe browning to the margins. As mentioned, the folding plate is torn with over 50% loss. The front hinge is weak. However, the text is readable and this is a decent medical curiosity.
