An Illustrated Treatise on the Art of Shooting
1891, with fine adverts including Burberry
Third edition, hardback bound in the original blue cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 22 × 14cm, 232pp + ads
Charles Lancaster was a London gun-maker, and this is his illustrated treatise on the art of shooting, from the act of shooting (perpendicular shot, approaching shot, snap shot etc) through to the care of guns, pellets and powders and so on. The book has a good number of adverts pertaining to shooting and accessories, including a fine double page colour advert for Burberry's Airylight Two-Garment Suit.
Good condition for age. The cloth is rubbed and bumped to the spine ends, and there is a little loss to the bottom of the front endpaper. The binding is secure but a little pulled in places.
