Four J H Fabre Natural History / Insect books
Beetles, wasps, the mantis etc
Here are four J Henri Fabre natural history titles, all are hardbacks in either the first or early edition.
1. The Sacred Beetle and others, translated by Alexander Teixeira de Mattos, with a preface by the author. Pub. Hodder & Stoughton, London, undated c1918. A good solid copy, with a little marking to the front board.
2. The Hunting Wasps, translated by Alexander Teixeira de Mattos. Pub. Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1919. Slight lifting to the covers and previous owner's bookplate. Otherwise a good copy.
3. The Wonders of Instinct, Chapters in the Psychology of Insects, illustrated with photographs. Pub. T Fisher Unwin, London, 1918. Third impression. Good condition, nice gilt decoration (slightly rubbed off) to upper board. Previous owner's pencil inscriptino to ffep and newspaper clippings to endpapers.
4. Social Life of the Insect World. Pub. T Fisher Unwin, London, 1920. Hardback, reprint. Good condition, but cloth dulled and appears to be a cheap edition.
All books have some light wear but all are in good readable condition.
