Full title: The Flower Beneath the Foot, being a Record of the Early Life of St Laura de Nazianzi and the Times in Which She Lived

At the fantastical court of King Willie and Her Dreaminess the Queen of Pisuerga, maid of honour Laura de Nazianzi and His Weariness Prince Yousef whisper promises to each other in the palace gardens. But Laura is destined for disappointment. The King and Queen have plans for a royal wedding for their Prince, and the young woman in their sights is none other than Princess Elsie of England. The court is all aflutter... Ronald Firbank's novel is a flamboyant court satire and lyrical tour de force of innuendo and eccentricity.

C R W Nevinson has designed the front pastedown, Augustus John the portrait frontis, and Wyndham Lewis the title page portrait.

A good reading copy. The black cloth is rubbed and frayed a little along the rear hinge. There is some foxing to the pages but the book remains in good strong readable condition. Previous owner's bookplate to ffep (A F Birch Jones).
