First edition, first printing, hardback in dustwrapper. 19 × 12.5cm, 280pp.
The eleventh and penultimate volume in Anthony Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time. Narrator Nicholas Jenkins and his contemporaries are at the height of their various careers in the arts, business, and politics. X. Trapnel is dead, but his mystery continues to draw ghoulish interest from readers and academics alike—as well as from his lover, Pamela Widmerpool. Kenneth Widmerpool, meanwhile, is an MP with mysterious connections beyond the newly dropped Iron Curtain, but he continues to be tormented by Pamela; a spectacular explosion, Nick can’t help but realise, is imminent.
Despite this copy being in good solid shape, it is an ex-library book. There is a small pen line to the page's top edge, the residue of a label taken from the ffep, and discard marks to the copyright page. However, it remains perfectly readable. The Broom-Lynne wrapper remains bright and has not marking to it apart from two tape marks to the flaps. It has not been price-clipped. The book has slight finger marking to the page edges but the main body of text is clean with secure binding.
