Among the Ruins
A rare early account (1915) of the First World War
First UK edition, first printing hardback bound in the original tan cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 19.5 × 13cm, viii , 346pp
A rare early account of the devastation and battles of the Great War. Gomez Carrillo was the press correspondent of El Liberal, a Spanish newspaper. He had a great skill at getting close to the front line and from this book, his Spanish readers were able to grasp the horrors of war. He writes about the Battles at Meaux, the Marne, Verdun and Nancy, as well as German prisoners, artillery bombardments and life in the trenches.
Quite a scarce first edition, and this one is in very good condition for age. There is some rubbing to the cloth and the rear board has some bumping to the bottom corner. The ffep is vertically creased and has a previous owner's name but the main body of text is in very good order.
