The First of Foot, History of the Royal Scots
Signed by three Second World War veterans, including Alastair MacIntyre & David McQueen
First edition, hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14.5cm, 504pp.
This copy has been signed by 1. Alastair MacIntyre, he was a senior announcer with BBC Scotland and served as a Major in the Royal Scots in the Second World War, 2. David McQueen, a Brigadier in the Royal Scots who won a DSO for his part in breaking the Siegfried Line in 1945 (he is mentioned in the book), and 3. another name who I assume was an officer in the Royal Scots but I can't quite make it out...
The story of the Royal Scots in the Second World War, taken from War Diaries and also personal accounts, as the dustwrapper states "many battles were fought again [for the author's benefit], and old maps, some stained with mud and blood, were unfolded... deeds more thrilling than fiction are told in this tale of gallantry and high endeavour".
This copy is in good readable condition only, but is rare with the association signatures. The dustwrapper is very tatty with creasing and chipping to the edges but is now within a protective sleeve. The book has some tanning and light water-staining to the pages and has a well-read feel but is complete.
