This copy was owned by Cunningham of Hyndhope and he has signed the front pastedown from The Palace House, Bishop's Waltham. Andrew Browne Cunningham, 1st Viscount Cunningham of Hyndhope was a senior Royal Navy officer in the Second World War. He joined the Navy in 1898, served in Destroyers at the Dardenelles in 1915, and as Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet, in WW2, he led British naval forces to victory in several critical Mediterranean naval battles, notably Taranto and Cape Matapan.
Originally titled Children of the Wolf, Founding Fathers is Alfred Duggan’s story of the reign of King Romulus, always keeping the details of the ancient legend in view, conveys an extraordinary sense of the realities of life in the eighth century B.C.
A good copy with an interesting provenance. The red cloth boards are lightly faded and there is a small hole to the rear joint.
