Planchon's 1778 first edition, and the first use of the Naturism. From the library of Arpad Plesch
First edition, hardback bound in quarter leather with marbled paper covered boards. 20 × 12.5cm, 270pp. French text.
Not signed but this book comes from the library of noted bibliophile Arpad Plesch with his leather bookplate to the front pastedown.
Full title: Le Naturisme, ou la Nature considérée dans les Maladies & leur traitement conforme à la Doctrine & la pratique d’Hippocrate & de ses Sectateurs.
A rare French first edition on the virtues of naturism in relation to health and well-being. This book is the first time the word 'naturism' was used in relation to healthy living, having been coined by the author.
Good. The leather is peeling to the spine and the boards' edges are rubbed. The title page is torn but without loss of text. The main body of text is in good condition, but p16 has a very small hole in the centre with few letters lost but remains readable, pages 35 and 81 have small loss to the corners without loss of text and there is a hospital stamp to page 69, this a little over text but remaining readable. At page 149, three sheets of later French medical text have been bound in, again this has no impact on the original pages.
