Matthew Hale (1609—1676) was an English judge and jurist, he wrote many important legal works but was also known for his deep religiosity and this is a collection of his essays and poems. Essays include: On the Consideration of our Latter End, The Victory of Faith over the World, Of the Knowledge of Christ Crucified, etc etc and also his Poems upon Christmas Day.

Condition

A fair copy. The leather is heavily rubbed but in sound condition, and the book lacks the frontispiece portrait of the author. The main body of text is in good order with some worming to the margins with no loss of text. A good reference copy.
