The House on Garibaldi Street (Signed copy)
Signed by Isser Harel, the man who led the capture of Adolf Eichmann
First edition, first printing hardback in dustwrapper. 22.5 × 14.5cm, 288pp.
Signed directly to the ffep by Isser Harel in both Hebrew and English.
Isser Harel instigated and led Operation Eichmann when he was the chief of the Israeli secret service. Never before has the director of such an important operation described it so fully and frankly. He made the decision to capture the administrator of Hitler's Final Solution in 1957, on hearing the first convincing rumour that Eichmann was in Argentina. He handed his prisoner over to the law in Israel in May 1960.
This book describes in full detail each of the three stages of capture. Firstly, the suspect had to be identified without alerting him, then the capture had to be planned and executed with a team of volunteers shipped to Buenos Aires, and finally Eichmann had to be smuggled out. An incredible read, and a very rare book to find signed.
The book is in very good condition, with some sun fading to the top edge of the boards. A previous owner has dated the book (1975) on the same page as Harel's signatures. The dustwrapper has some very light wear to the edges and slight surface abrasions but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve. Overall, a very good copy.
