French Intensive Gardening
from the library of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire
Undated . First edition, hardback in dustwrapper. 21.5 × 17cm, 128pp.
This book describes the principles of French intensive gardening and the cultivation of food crops.
This copy comes from Chatsworth House, the Derbyshire home of the Duke of Devonshire. It was sold by Sotheby's in 2010 in their Chatsworth Attic Sale and has a label stating such to the front pastedown.
The book is in very good condition bar a small line of nicks to the cloth of the rear board. The dustwrapper is intact but has small tears to the edges, a line of pencil letters to the front and small tears to the back corresponding with the wear to the cloth. Otherwise, a perfectly serviceable copy of quite a scarce gardening title.
