The Human Figure in Motion
Eadweard Muybridge's Electro-Photographic Investigation of Consecutive Phases of Muscular Actions
Undated, c1922. Sixth edition, hardback bound in the original red cloth with gilt titling to spine and blindstamped titling to upper board, 24.4 × 30cm, 277pp.
Muybridge's amazing motion photographs were taken between 1872 and 1885, and shows men, women and children engaged in various activities (usually undressed) including baseball, stone throwing, boxing, woman walking and flirting a fan, dancing a pirouette, as well as everyday movements. When presented in this time-lapse form (usually between 01 and 03 of a second) create a fascinating view of the human body.
Good condition, but with some wear. The red cloth binding is a little dulled, with finger marks to the edges and a little rippling to the cloth at the top edge. Slight rubbing and bumping to boards. The pages, whilst intact, also have some finger marking to the fore-edge and are lightly foxed to the prelims and page edges. The inner binding is secure but sags a little as is common with books of this size and weight.
