Prize binding for musician Gustave Pradeau from the Conservatoire Imperial in 1863
Hardback, full leather. 27.5 × 18.5cm, 102pp + 140pp + 216pp. Gilt presentation to Gustave Pradeau, a composer, musician and highly-regarded interpreter of Schubetr, he was the son of Etienne Pradeau, the opera singer and actor. The upper board has gilt lettering which reads "Conservatoire Imperial de Musique & de Declamation Concours de 1863. 2nd Prix D'Harmonie Decerne a Mr G. Pradeau".
Quite a scarce early Beethoven printing. The complete scores for Beethoven's 1st (Op.24), 2nd (Op.36) and 3rd (Op.55, Eroica) symphonies, for flutes, hautbois (oboe), clarinettes en ut, cors en ut (horns), trompettes en ut, bassons, timballes en ut (timpani), violins, altos, and basses.
This copy is in good condition for age. The boards are rubbed to the edges and joints. Front hinge worn but holding well. Pages tanned and speckled throughout but in generally good order. An attractive copy with an interesting provenance.
