The Journal of a Naturalist
John Knapp's botanical companion to Gilbert White's Selborne
Third edition, hardback. Bound in the original cloth with paper title label to spine. 20.5 × 12.5cm, xvi + 432pp, with six (of seven) plates.
John Knapp was an English botanist best known for this book, his Journal of a Naturalist. It was first published anonymously in 1829 and was meant as a botanical companion to Gilbert White's Selborne. This copy is illustrated with six plates at the rear (lacking the final coloured plate) and woodcuts within the text.
A fair reading copy. The cloth binding is rubbed and dulled with a split in the front joint at the base of the spine. The inner binding is holding but pulled in places. As mentioned, this copy lacks the final coloured plate.
