Elizabeth of the Sealed Knot
A Biography of Elizabeth Murray, Countess of Dysart
First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 23.5 × 15.5cm, 262pp.
From the dustwrapper: This is the story of one of the most enigmatic personalities of the strife-torn 17th century; Elizabeth, Countess of Dysart, a beautiful, vivacious, turbulent woman, stirred by wild passions and driven by an insatiable desire for political intrigue. Suspected of spying by both Royalists and Parliamentarians, she was the known confidante of Cromwell (it was even rumoured she was his mistress). Her home in Ham House in London was the centre whence she wove her web of intrigue, indulging her propensity for secret codes, Machiavellian cunning, and midnight meetings which ultimately lead to accusations of witchcraft.
The book is in very good condition. The dustwrapper is scruffy to the edges but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
