Not signed but his copy has a bookplate by Robert Osmond for John Theodore Radclyffe Prestige to the ffep. It is dated 1945 and depicts Bourne House of Bishopsbourne, Kent surrounded by roses and snowdrops, with inserts of a mermaid and a reference to The Buffs. Osmond (1874–1959) was one of the great copper engraved bookplate designers of the 20th century, and designed many both plates both for his own company and for Bumpus.
A biography of Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig, the military commander of the British Army during the first years of the Great War.
The book is a reading copy, with sunning to the spine and rear board. Internally good. Of chief interest is the bookplate, which has a small inscription above it and has some light spotted foxing but is in generally good condition.
