The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth
A rare early pirated edition from Paris (1828)
Early edition, full limp leather (rebound) with gilt titling to upper board. 22.5 × 14.5cm, xvi + 340pp.
This is most probably an unauthorised pirated copy of the 1827 London Longmans edition, complete with Wedgwood portrait of Wordsworth as frontispiece. The book contains Wordsworth's entire poetical works, and according to the publisher, with "several new pieces interspersed". The poetry is printed in small text and in double columns, and is preceded by a memoir of William Wordsworth and an introductory note to his works.
Quite a scarce copy but only in fair condition. The book has been rebound in limp leather with plain leather spine. The pages are lightly foxed throughout and a previous owner has signed the ffep, and made inoffensive marginal pencil annotations, with a little underlining. However, the text is complete and this remains a decent early Wordsworth.
