The Natural History of Selborne
The Folio Society's exquisitely illustrated 2009 edition
First thus, large hardback in slipcase. Buckram spine with gilt titling, paper covered boards. Top edge gilt. 33 × 25cm, xvi + 379pp.
A delightful large edition of Gilbert White's Selborne. This edition is beautifully illustrated with exquisite full page colour plates. From the publisher's blurb: The text of this edition is taken from the 1789 edition and includes the first part only, with minor emendations. The additional two letters 'Timothy the Tortoise to Miss Hecky Mulso' and 'On the Sense of Hearing in Fishes', were first published in the 1877 edition of 'The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne', edited by Thomas Bell, 2 vols, published by John Van Voorst.
The book is in very good condition, with a little bumping to the head of the spine. The slipcase is quite heavily scuffed to the bottom, and has general light overall scuffs.
