First thus, hardback, original cloth binding with paper title label to spine. 18 × 11cm, cviii + 227pp.

Full title: Devotions, with Two Sermons: I. On the Decease of Lady Danvers, Mother of George Herbert, II Deaths Duel, His Own Funeral Sermon. To Which is Prefixed His Life by Izaak Walton.

John Donne's Devotions, subtitled "Upon emergent occasions and several steps in my sickness digested into 1. meditations upon our human condition, 2. expostulations and deabtements with God, 3. prayers upon the several occasions to Him". This followed by two sermons, and preceed by Walton's Life of Donne.

This copy has the bookplate of Robert Guinness of Stillorgan (1861). He was the son of Irish banker, Robert Rundell Guinness.

Condition

Fair condition only but still very readable. The cloth is rubbed and the front joint and spine ends are frayed. The inner binding is secure but pulled a little in places.
