The second novel in Williamson's A Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight. The story of Young Phillip Maddison—nicknamed 'donkey boy' because his life was saved as a baby by ass's milk—set in the England of just before the Boer war and the first few years of Edward the Seventh's reign. We see the sensitive young boy growing up amidst his unusual family, share his experiences and adventures, and the whole tone and feel of the period is marvellously evoked.

A reading copy only. The dustwrapper is faded to the spine and is a little worn. The book has a slight lean to the spine, tanning to the page edges, and the first few pages have a vertical crease to the middle.
