Lewis Carroll, Interviews and Recollections
Morton N Cohen's working typescript with manuscript edits and page mock-ups
Early draft, c1988 (Eventually published by Macmillan, London).
Loose A4 sheets, title + 363pp. Typescript with manuscript edits, some pages are mock-ups with excerpts, cuttings and photocopies from other works being pasted onto the pages.
This typescript comes from Professor Cohen's London library and was his working typescript. It is housed in a rather battered cardboard box with his ownership marks. The book is a record of Lewis Carroll as recalled by the people who knew him. There are his teachers, friends, relatives, colleagues and pupils. It describes him as a schoolboy, a scholar, undergraduate and don, but mostly as the author of one of the greatest children's classics in the English language.
Also included is a first edition of the book, which though unsigned, also comes from Professor Cohen's library.
The pages are in good condition, there is some corner creasing and handling marks as to expected with a working copy. As mentioned, the box it comes in is in a very battered state but it seems a shame to rehouse it. The finished copy of the book is in good plus condition.
