The Diaries of Lewis Carroll (Signed copies)
Professor Morton Cohen's working copies
First American editions, hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, xxvi + 604pp (pagination is continuous between the two volumes).
These books come from the library of pre-eminent Lewis Carroll scholar, Professor Morton N Cohen (1921–2017), and he has signed both books to the ffep. Cohen and Lancelyn Green became close friends and worked together on the Letters of Lewis Carroll, which took over twenty years to complete.
This was the first publication of Lewis Carroll's diaries. Roger Lancelyn Green worked from a typed manuscript given to him by the Dodgson [Carroll] family and run from 1832 to 1898.
These copies were Professor Cohen's reference copies, and as such are heavily worn with rubbing to the corners and fraying to the joints. The dustwrapper to volume 2 is present but in pieces and tucked inside the books. There are a few marginal annotations and marks. I have left Prof. Cohen's bookmarks in situ out of interest. A poor set but readable, but belonging to the man considered to be the finest authority on Carroll.
Please note we are away until 26th OCTOBER 2017. Please feel free to make purchases and we will be posting out again on Thursday 26th. Any questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
