A History of Photography (Signed copy)
Signed by William Shepperley to fellow photographer Angus Basil
First edition, hardback. Cloth spine with paper covered boards. Printed titling to spine and upper board. 25.5 × 19cm, 100pp + ads.
This copy has been signed to a fellow photographer by the author, "To Angus Basil Esq, with the author's compliments. March viii, 1929". There is also a handwritten letter loosely enclosed, which reads "Dear Mr Basil, At long last I am able to forward you a copy of my History of Photography, which I request you to do me the pleasure of accepting. I renew my thanks to you for your courtesy in permitting me to reproduce your portrait in the work, which I hope will meet with your approval. Yours very sincerely, William Shepperley".
An interesting history of photography, from the early days of the camera obscura, Fox-Talbot, Scott-Archer and Daguerre, through the development of the camera and the lens to the Kinema and the photographic trade. Illustrated with portraits etc. Also with adverts to front and back for photography equipment.
A good copy but with some light wear. The cloth spine is blotchy, the board rubbed to the corners. The inner binding is pulled and a little tender in places but no pages are loose.
