The Culture, Management and Improvement of Landed Estates
1872. fine leather, with twelve colour plates
First edition, hardback rebound in half-leather with five raised bands and gilt titling to spine marbled paper covered boards. New endpapers. 26 × 16cm, xxviii + 280pp, 245pp. With twelve plates of grasses and insects.
A fascinating book on the management of landed estates. The first part is the agricultural and practical side of things (analysis of soils, root crops, destructive insects etc) and the second part is the legal and administrative side. The book is illustrated with twelve colour plates showing grasses (8) and insects to be wary of (4). There is also a large fold-out map of Hertfordshire to the front.
A very attractive copy, and in good condition for age. The binding is relatively recent so in very good order, the inner binding tight and secure. The pages are clean but with some light foxing to the title page. There is also a 1905 inscription to the title. The plates are all present an in good order. The map is lightly foxed and has one tear to a fold and a taped repair where bound in.
