Recording the staff of the London County Council in World War One
First edition, hardback bound in the original blue cloth with gilt titling to spine. Top edge gilt. 21 × 13cm, 212pp + 203pp.
A remarkable book, which makes a brief service record of the staff of the London County Council in the Great War. The book is in two parts, the first is a history of the war on the Western Front and other campaigns, with mention of staff where relevant. The second part is an alphabetical index (by council department) of those who served. The information is regiment, when they enlisted or were conscripted, where they served, any decorations, and if they were killed in action. Each copy of this book came with a dedication. The front pastedown states "Presented by the LCC in memory of the services rendered by (handwritten) Cpl. E A Hewish in the Great War", and indeed on p154 there is a record for Edward Alfred Hewish (1916–1919); Corporal RAF; France 2 years, 2 months.
A good solid copy of this book. light wear to the covers and the Cpl Hewish's name has been highlighted in pencil.
