Printing Details

First US edition, first printing, hardback bound in the original cloth with silver printed titling to spine. 21 × 13.5cm, 248pp.

Gordon Comstock loathes dull, middle-class respectability and worship of money. He gives up a 'good job' in advertising to work part-time in a bookshop, giving him more time to write. But he slides instead into a self-induced poverty that destroys his creativity and his spirit. Only Rosemary, ever-faithful Rosemary, has the strength to challenge his commitment to his chosen way of life.

Condition

A very good copy. The dustwrapper suffers very slight loss to the head of the spine and corners, but is crisp. There is a little fading to the spine and it has been price-clipped but is now within a protective sleeve. The book is in good, solid shape with clean pages and strong binding. Previous owner's neat inscription to ffep (dated 1956) and inoffensive stamp to the front pastedown.
