First edition, hardback bound in sumptuous purple suede with crisp gilt titling to spine and poet's monogram to upper board. All edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles. Come in publisher's original box.

A delightful copy of Ella Wheeler Wilcox's poems, elegantly illustrated by Alice Ross. Wilcox (1850–1919) was an American poet and author and this copy contains her poem Solitude with the opening line "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone".

Condition

The book is in lovely condition. Not mint but very good. The suede is clean an bright but with a few marks. The page are clean bar a little spotted foxing and the inner binding is secure. The publisher's box is worn and damaged but has done a good job in protecting the book.
