Missing from the Shelf (Signed copy)
Signed by Michael Salkeld, a Golden Age mystery classic
First edition, hardback bound in the original red cloth with printed white titling to upper board. 19 × 12.5cm, 318pp.
Inscribed by the author to the ffep, "To Nellie, with love from her brother, the author. Sept. 18, 1936"
This book was the author's first and only title. A seemingly minor incident—a book missing from the shelf of a retired, pernickety solicitor (Mr Tomlinson)—becomes a unbelievable adventure for a young archaeologist, currently employed by a private inquiry agent and hired by the solicitor to find the book. Along the way the amateur detective encounters masqueraders, thieves, murderers, and romance as he searches to uncover the book’s secret.
A good copy of this scarce Golden Age detective classic. The red cloth has some light mottling to the lower boards, the spine is evenly sun-faded and the spine titling has rubbed off. Internally, the binding is secure and the pages are clean.
