Signed by Edward Thomas to Gordon Bottomley

This copy has been inscribed by the poet Edward Thomas to Emily and Gordon Bottomley. Edward Thomas (1879–1917) and Gordon Bottomley (1874–1948) were great friends, with Thomas frequently visiting the Bottomleys at their Lancashire home. The Thomas / Bottomley letters were published in 1968. This book also has the "Bottomley bequest" bookplate to the front pastedown, as well as the "Call me Ishmael" bookplate of legendary bookseller George Sims. Furthermore, the book is stamped "presentation copy" from the publishers to the title page.
Published in the "Wisdom of the East" series, The Lamentations of Isis and Nephthys is an ancient Egyptian text in which the two goddess-sisters call the soul of the god Osiris to rejoin the living.
The book is in good condition, with some light rubbing to the joints and edges and a little marking to the upper board along the spine. Internally the book is in strong, sound condition with clean pages and secure binding. There is a little fraying to the cloth along the bottom edge. Edward Thomas' signature is in brown ink and is crisp and clear. A rare copy.
