First edition, two volumes complete. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth with gilt titling to spine. Each: 22.5 × 14.5cm. Vol 1: xx, 341pp. Vol 2: xii + 345pp.

This work, according to the author's preface, is a continuation of S R Gardiner's History of the Commonwealth and Protectorate, and examines Oliver Cromwell's reign and government, his influence at home and abroad, and the social and economic condition of England under his governance during the years 1656 to 1658.

Condition

A very good set. There is some foxing to the early pages of each volumes and a little fading to the spine but they are essentially in very sound condition. Both copies are stamped "Presentation Copy" to the title page and vol 1 has a review slip laid in from publishers.
