This was originally the first paperback edition, but has been beautifully rebound by Henry Sotheran, Sackville Street, London, W1 in half-leather with contrasting title label, five raised bands and gilt decoration to spine, and with ownership initials to lower corner of the upper board. Top edge gilt and marbled endpapers. 18.5 × 11cm, 211pp.
Three tragedies by Lorca: Blood Wedding: a play of love that cannot become marriage among the primitive hill people of Castile. Yerma: a play of a woman's struggles and the problem of frustrated motherhood. Bernarda Alba: this play tells of the repression of five daughters by a domineering mother, of how their natural spirits circumvent her but bring violence and death.
Federico Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet and playwright, and outspoken Socialist, who was executed by the Nationalist forces in the first months of the Spanish Civil War.
Condition
This is a very good copy. There is some light wear to the front joint but the leather is in otherwise very good condition with crisp gilt, There are a few minor surface abrasions to the covers. The book is tightly bound and the pages are clean. Previous owner's neat bookplate to front pastedown.
