Cyclopedic Survey of Chamber Music
1929, two volumes complete. Contributions from Donald Tovey and Ralph Vaughan Williams
First edition, complete in two volumes. Hardback, bound in the orginal blue cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board. 25 × 16.5cm, xii + 585pp, 641pp.
This survey offers a systematic arrangement of all the relevant facts on chamber music. It includes articles by leading musicians and musicologists of the time, including Vincent d'Indy, Donald Tovey, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The inner binding to volume one is weak with both hinges cracked and loose, and the half-title page detached. However, with a little care, the book is perfectly readable. Volume two is in very good condition. Previous owner's name to the ffep, and a loosely inserted typed sheet listing the people who have contributed to present this copy to Dr Allen K Blackall as he retires from the University of Birmingham in 1945.
