Two volumes in a fine Zaehnsdorf half-leather binding
First edition, two volumes (complete). Half-leather, rebound by Zaehnsdorf with four raised bands and gilt titling and decoration to spine, marbled paper covered boards and top edge gilt. Each 18 x13 cm, volume 1: cxiv + 225pp. volume 2: iv + 412pp.
The collected works of the Reverend Robert Alfred Vaughan, an English Congregationalist minister and author, containing a lengthy memoir of him by his father, also a minister of the Congregationalist communion and professor of history at London University, followed by his own works, including his studies (Origen; Schleiermacher etc) reviews, essays, poetry.
The bindings are in very good condition, with some light bumping and rubbing to the corners and light abrasions to the joints. The pages are lightly foxed throughout (mostly to the first pages of each book) but the inner binding is secure.
