Colonel Hawker's detailed shooting diaries from 1802 to 1852. He was best known as the author of Instructions to Young Sportsmen in all that Relates to Guns and Shooting, and was a passionate sportsman himself. His diaries detail his doings in work, sport and travel, in particualr he chronicled his hours of shooting and fishing with extreme exactness. The book is illustrated with portraits and sporting scenes.
An attractive. The leather is a little scuffed to the head of the spine and a little over the gilt titling. There is a previous owner's stamp to the ffep (Hon. H R Grosvenor of Courtlands Park, Dyfed) and an inoffensive signature to the front pastedown. the inner binding is secure though one plate is nearly detached. The pages are clean but with foxing to the frontispiece, title and page edges.
