Printing Details

First edition, hardback bound in the the original red cloth blocked in gilt and colours. 18.5 × 12.5cm, 408pp + 8pp ads.

This copy belonged to Ralph Pulitzer, the American heir, newspaper publisher and author. He was the son of Joseph Pulitzer of Pulitzer Prize fame. The book is signed to the ffep, "Ralph Pulitzer from J.H.P". The publisher's adverts to the rear have been annotated in pencil probably by Ralph with titles he already has, and one is noted as being for Lulu—possibly his sister Lucille who died in 1897.

A later adventure from R M Ballantyne, this one set in pre-Christian Britain. Illustrated with frontispiece, illustrated title page, and four plates within the text.

A fair copy. The spine is faded but the cloth is in good condition. The endpapers and illustrated title are loose but not detached. The main body of text is in better condition. The pages are clean with just some isolate spotting. All plates present. The book is perfectly readable and with a nice provenance, but needs some gentle handling.
