Britain's Home Guard (Signed copy)
Signed by Eric Kennington, with 19 portraits in colour by him
First edition, hardback bound in the original red cloth covered boards. 22 × 15cm, 48pp.
This copy has been signed by Eric Kennington to Sir James Grigg to the ffep and dated 1945. James Grigg, a favourite of Winston Churchill's, was the Secretary of State for War from 1942 to the end of the war in 1945.
John Brophy's paean to the Home Guard, and its service throughout the Second World War. Eric Kennington has contributed 19 portraits of the men who served, here reproduced in colour. Both Kennington and Brophy served in the Home Guard.
A poor copy I'm afraid, but a rare copy as well! The red cloth binding is rather dull and scratched. The inner binding is weak, particularly so at the title page and frontispiece where the webbing has been exposed. The binding is secure through the rest of the book. All illustrations are present. The pages are clean but age-toned due to the war economy paper.
