Nine volumes of sermons from Jean-Baptiste Massillon (1663–1742), a French Catholic Bishop (of Clermont) and preacher. It includes his Petit Careme (a sermon preached before the young Louis XV in 1718) and his funeral oration for Louis XIV which begins with his most famous line Dieu seul est grand (Only God is great). The books are (not in the correct order):
Volumes 1—4: A Careme (at Lent) [iv] 483pp [vi]; [ii] 454pp; [ii] 475pp; [ii] 480pp. The leather is in poor condition to these four books, the spine cracked and worn to all and both boards off to Vol 3.
Single volume: Avent (Advent) [ii] 484pp [iv]—joints cracked, spine worn.
Single volume: Petit Caresme, xxiv [iv] 315pp—joints cracked, spine worn.

Single volume - Oraisons Funebres et Profess. Religieuses, vi [ii] 459pp—joints cracked and spine worn.
Single volume—Mysteres, [iv] 440pp—joints cracked and spine worn..
All nine volumes have heavy wear to the leather with the joints cracked and the spines worn. One book has both boards detached. Several have vertical cracks to the leather in the spine. However, the inner binding seems quite secure and the pages, though tanned, are clean. Previous owner's name to each volume. A good reference set.
